Partners for Climate Action is now The Understory
Today, Partners for Climate Action announces a new name for ourselves -- one that we feel best captures the full spirit of the work we do.
We are now The Understory.
Since our founding in 2019, our work in climate action has deepened and broadened to tackle related goals for ecological restoration and direct democracy. We've launched the region's largest pollinator program, installed sustainability resource hubs in public libraries, trained community volunteers, and deployed nearly $10 million in grants to local municipalities and nonprofits.
We are attracted to the name The Understory because of the crucial role that understories play in the forests that distinguish our region. Here, young saplings are nurtured as they grow into the tall trees that will one day form the canopy. This layer also serves as critical habitat for birds, insects, and mammals who call the forest home. We feel the metaphor of this teeming network of biodiversity best reflects the work that we aspire to promote in the Hudson Valley.
Though we’re becoming The Understory, our ideals remain unchanged, as do our core programs: PollinateHV, Funding Futures, and The Wild Trust. Next month, we welcome a new program called H.E.R.E., or the Hudson Estuary Resilience Effort. Each of these initiatives supports a key area of ecological and community work and is an important part of our evolution as an organization.
We hope to connect with you soon – perhaps at a future webinar, guided nature walk, or our annual climate mixer – as we celebrate this new chapter.
And, as always, we thank you for your ongoing support.
